Rivers FC Defeated In Both Weekend Games

KAMLOOPS, BC –– Rivers FC’s men’s and women’s teams were in action on Saturday, July 9th at McArthur Island.

Both teams played their hearts out only to lose by a single goal in each game.

The Rivers FC women’s team lost to Unity FC 3-2 despite playing one of their better games of the League1 season.

First half goals by Taylor Miller and Camryn Curts weren’t enough to overcome a determined Unity FC side.

Unity’s men’s squad needed a stoppage-time goal by Jackson Thompson to win 1-0 against the home side in the other League1 match of the day.

Thompson’s opportunistic marker came as both teams pressed for the winning goal.

Superb saves by Rivers’ goalkeeper Jackson Gardner and Unity’s netminder Sebastian Colyn kept the match tied at 0-0 going into stoppage time, but it was Thompson that jumped on a low cross into the goalmouth to claim the victory.

Saturday’s results mean that Rivers FC’s women’s team sit last in the seven team League1 BC female division with 1 win, 7 losses and 1 tie. The women have four points from 9 games.

Rivers’ men’s team drops one position in the League1 standings to fifth on 2 wins, 4 losses and 3 draws and 11 points from 9 games.

Rivers’ two teams will play their last home games of the 2022 League1 season against Varsity FC at Hillside Stadium this coming Saturday, July 16th. The men kick-off first at 1:00pm, followed by the women at 3:30pm.

The following weekend, the club will play its last two games of the season on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps and Victoria Highlanders (July 22 and 24, respectively).
